Ughhh, this post is SO beautiful! The part about the vines that had grown to hold you back now being ones that were reaching out to others was so visceral and lovely. I couldn't be happier to know you and have been a small part of this particular journey.
Thank you for writing this! And for letting the light in/out:
"With great difficulty advancing by millimeters each year, I carve a road out of the rock. For millenniums my teeth have wasted and my nails broken to get there, to the other side, to the light and the open air. And now that my hands bleed and my teeth tremble, unsure in a cavity cracked by thirst and dust, I pause and contemplate my work.
I have spent the second part of my life breaking the stones, drilling the walls, smashing the doors, removing the obstacles I placed between the light and myself in the first part of my life."
Thank you, Colin! I love this passage. Yep, it's a grind, and people should know that getting out of the cave isn't easy. But the light is worth every millimeter of struggle.
Bob this was so beautiful, thank you for writing it. I felt like I got to see YOU a little better and I celebrate your choice to jump off that metaphorical (and actual!) cliff. I also saw myself in parts of the essay. When I started my company I had a vision of “co-creating” something. But as you know too well, and as we’ve discussed, when you’re the boss you’re not co-creating anything, you’re the one sourcing the vision. On several occasions my husband said “they’re not your friends” and I came to realize that what I was seeking was community and authentic connection, something that is sadly deeply lacking in our world.
And now I am actually co-creating a community with shared leadership. Of course that comes with its own challenges, but it also comes with connections that deepened sooner than I thought was possible. Unfolding and embracing authenticity is magical.
I’m grateful to know you. May you continue to play and follow the joy. 💜🙏🏻💜
Thank you for this wonderful note, Linnea! Perhaps we need to co-author a book on how company building can be a form of Ego building — another way we may try to make the chaos of the outside world more manageable. I'm so excited for the community you're putting together!
I’ve often thought about writing something that explores entrepreneurship as a path to self actualization. I don’t know, maybe this could be a collaboration!
I enjoyed every minute of this Bob! So authentic - and how cool to be on this journey together 🙌
Fun to be kids again!!

Small part => Big part!
